It's high time for a little of Jimmy Hatlo's Little Iodine! This story, "Daze "N' Knights," is from Four Color No. 257, December 1949. The art and story is signed by Hatlo - but might be done by someone working marvelously in the Hatlo style (thoughts?).Hatlo, best known for the long-running gag strip, They'll Do It Every Time, was such a great writer; and the following captures the Hatlo essentials: Characters that are always so human and flawed, larcenous yet ultimately fair-minded - and very funny.
Big Blog pal, John Kricfalusi, had some fascinating observations about Jimmy Hatlo's work in a post not too long ago at his fantastic blog, John K Stuff. I always enjoy the insights of John K, often getting lost for hours poking around his place. Check out his thinking on Jimmy Hatlo HERE! or HERE!Before you dash over to John's great blog, here's a B&W one-pager from the inside front cover. That's some sweet line work!
